01-25-2002, 10:08 PM forgive me.

Good. Now. Fine.
Anybody know Kenshin?
Does anyone happen to have watched the new OVA, maybe...?
Does anybody happen to know why Glnat has delayed the release of volume 21? :uh?:
Is here anybody else in love with a RK character (and proud of it)?
Hmmm... ?

01-26-2002, 03:24 AM
Who doesn't know kenshin? It's one of my favorite anime of all times! I just love the characters in there. I've always find Kenshin very entertaining. It's got a pretty decent plot line, and the best fight scenes.

01-26-2002, 12:02 PM
Of course, I know

Kenshin, A youngman with a marvelous Sword Tech.;) and also unbeatable.(Well, I want to see Kenshin lost at least ONE time);)

01-26-2002, 02:12 PM
Ive seen a few episodes but ive read quite a lot of the manga, fanscans though considering they havent released it in english just like all my other favourites Naruto, Hikaru No Go, One piece e.t.c. When i get the cash ill prolly buy a few japanese volumes to eleviate my guilt.

I think the manga is very good but i havent seen enough of the series to evaluate it yet but the OVA episodes where amazing. Just gotta get my hands on some fansubs of the new OVA's i'd love to see a epilog to the series.

01-27-2002, 12:28 AM
Hehehehe... Naruto and One Piece are available in German and so will be Hikaru No Go soon. *snickers*

Anyway, if you like One Piece you're maybe aware of the fact that the author of OP used to be one of Watsuki's assistents?

Do you know the One Piece logo on the bomb in volume 19 of Kenshin? *lol* I laughed so hard I almost forgot that the plot was dark and serious!

01-27-2002, 12:55 PM
I've seen a few episodes ^_^ I'm downloading them from Morpheus, but it's all going quite slow, and my computer messing up and deleting partial downloaded files isn't helping much either..

I'd love to see the whole show, and the OVA.. But it'll probably take me like 5 years to download it all o_O

01-28-2002, 12:13 AM
*points at account name*

yes i've watched the new ova seisouhen ep 1 (or something like that)

01-28-2002, 07:03 PM
Heya then, Saitoh, stop showing off and tell us what you thought of it! (Spoiler-free, mayhaps!)

Nymph-chan, as far as I know, there will be a UK release this year... If downloading is too difficult and annoying for you, you might want to get them legally... *lol*

02-07-2002, 04:55 PM
a lot of flashbacks, and either it took a big leap from ep 4 (ova), or followed tv series up to Shishio

02-07-2002, 05:37 PM
Does that mean it only deals with the old stuff? Hmmm... does it have any use...? No new characters? :(

02-09-2002, 05:18 AM
the characters look a lot more older...

02-11-2002, 04:13 AM much iz da manga fer kenshin? i looked at the dvd's and tapes and i almost fainted:notgood: i dun haf dat much moneys! thx

02-11-2002, 03:06 PM
That depends on where you live and what version you want to read.

There is no English translation. Not offline, that is.
I only know about these:

The French version.
The latest volume released in France was volume 21. (I need it badly!)
The price per volume is about 6
Note: a new volume every second month. There are 28 volumes.

The German version.
The latest volume is volume 5. The release is monthly.
The price is 5

Okay, the prices would probably change depending on where you live... Imports suck! That is why I cannot tell you much about the Japanese version. Just that they will probably be a bit more expensive.
And in case you wonder. and $ are about the same. Not absolutely, but the difference is not that great...

You should get the manga anyway! Everybody should!

A last note!
Both translation get a huge MINUS because they translated "Oro".
The French "Oyo" is somewhat okay... compared to the German "Oho"... I tried my best until the whole company and the translators hated me... but to no avail... Heheh.

Do the characters look older because they are older? And, uhm, did you see any sign of Enishi? Probably not, but I am curious.

02-15-2002, 07:11 PM
You can get them for a much cheaper price if you ever visit Japan. My anime friends visit Japan a lot, and I always have them buy something for me. I think we really get ripped off in North America because the dvd's are way too expensive. In japan, you can buy the whole series at a VERY reasonable price. My friends actually gave me dvd's for Christmas that they got from japan. They said that the whole Orphen series only cost them $10!

Of course, I think Kenshin is a better anime than Orphen, but not so much that one dvd costs more than the whole series....

02-16-2002, 04:47 AM
i dont have anybody to talk to kenshin about!! my friends are all like "rurouni wat?" and when they rented the tape, they laughed at it! i feel like such an outsider....... o well hope ya had a nice valentine's day!

02-16-2002, 03:00 PM
Evil friends you have!! :(
Okay, you can talk here. Nobody will laugh at Kenshin in here. Only at the funny scenes. :)
I remember what my sister told me later after she watched the first episode of Kenshin, that Kenshin anime I loved so much, all of a sudden. "And then I thought Now she is really insane."

Sadly, visiting Japan itself is not so cheap. :(

02-16-2002, 09:38 PM
I know visiting japan is not cheap. But a lot of my friends visit japan all the time, anyway. I'm not sure why they'd want to go there, but I always have them pick up some anime for me. If you're going to japan to buy anime, then you might as well buy the anime here. You can buy loads of anime just with the plane ticket. Of course, the good thing about the dvd's from japan is that the dvd's are RAW!^^

02-27-2002, 02:04 AM
I picked up that new kenshin OVA. Anybody have a clue when the second part is coming out? Or is it out already? I really liked the extras on the dvd with the interviews with the voice actors/actresses.

02-27-2002, 06:35 PM
Ive heard something about the release being delayed. I forgot the date, however. Heh.
PLEASE anybody tell me about the OVA... :( :( :(

02-27-2002, 10:45 PM
The OVA is a new take on the Einishi (Tomoe's little brother) story arc. Plus it has scenes where everyone is a lot older.

Maybe some spoilers.....

It starts off with Kenshin (old and short hair) on a boat, he saves some dude from falling into the water (cause it's a stormy night), but ends up falling into the water. As he's falling he's like "I'm going to die...but that's ok...". Then it flashes back briefly to why he's on the boat, Kenshin get's talked into going to help the goverment in a war. Of course Kenshin is hesitant, than he agrees to go saying he needs to get pay off his final "tsumi". Shows his arm to the goverment offical who looks at a weird looking growth/scar on his arm in shock. Kaoru is alone in the dojo, sad because Kenshin is gone, and Kenji has run off to train with Hiko. She looks at some big cut mark in the wall, touches it and collapses. Yahiko comes by and notices her on the ground. It looks like Kaoru has the same growth/scar on her arm like Kenshin did earlier. There's a scene of Kenji training under Hiko (Kenshin's master), and it's obvious he doesn't quite respect his dad too much, and blames him for a lot of things. Kenshin looks like he has some weird disease, as does Kaoru. Kenshin refers to it as his final "tsumi" (I don't know how to translate this word well, but it means something like "karma for something bad you did". Then there's like flashbacks to stuff from the past (the OVA starts off in the future when everybody is older), and it ends with Kaoru getting kidnapped by Einishi.

02-28-2002, 03:58 AM
SANOSUKE IS GOD.Rirouni Kenshin Is probably the best Fuedal Japan Anime(next to ninja resurrection) ive ever seen.

03-01-2002, 09:39 AM
Ah, thank you Gori!
This was an interesting read, though I get the urgent feeling Ill have to watch the OVA now... Aaahh...

03-03-2002, 06:34 AM
my fav good guy in kenshin iz misao cuz she can be funny and cool at one moment, but then be totally serious about the situation at hand at the next moment. plus, ninja's r cool!! hmm...maybe i should add misao into my signature...........

my fav bad guy in kenshin has to be shishio the mummy boy!!! i dunno y, he just has a cool story to him that i makes his character interesting

03-17-2002, 05:59 PM
Rurouni Kenshin is the only anime that I've seen that I don't hate at least one character. I love every single character in that anime.

It's my favorite.. I obsess over it and make everyone who is not an otaku watch the whole series on me. Made my boyfriend buy me all the DVDs that have so far been released, and even made friends with one of the co producers, Kenji Shimizu.

Don't ruin Seisouhen for people who haven't seen it. I bought the DVD from animate when I was in osaka this january. I thought it was beautiful, in fact it made me cry when it was over :(

03-17-2002, 07:22 PM
::looks at Aerith:: Finally someone who is as obbsessed with Kenshin as i am.Me? i have no DVD' but when i go job hunting in a month or two ill pick some up then.Sanosuke is Just awesome to me.He has such a cool attitude and is probably THE coolest character IMO.well next to Misao;)

03-17-2002, 10:39 PM
I guess I'm the only person who actually likes the main characters, Kenshin and Kaoru, then? I find it really interesting that most people don't pick the main chracters as their favorites.

03-17-2002, 10:42 PM
Hey! I am mega-obsessed! Yay!
But there are some characters I hate. Just, as persons... I fully accept that they got to play a role in the story. I basically hate those people that are supposed to be hated or at least disliked... Dont tell me you liked Hoji? :D

Anyway... I am glad you revived this thread because it enables me to post here...

And yes, I do agree... Misao is just cool. :p

And Enishi:

Lucky Bastard!! you have Japaneese Kenshin mangas!? hold onto those d00d.

Kaoru['s my favorite girl! and Saitou is my favorite guy. Followed closely by Misao and Aoshi.

Kenshin is so cute though.

My boyfriend likes Yahiko and Hyottoko.

03-18-2002, 06:43 AM
DO'H!! i forgot about Kaoru.Shes another good character although it would've been nice if they concentrated the series a little more on her, delve into her character a bit deeper.Call me crazy but Kaoru is My personal fave.

03-18-2002, 03:58 PM
I know several people who dont speak Japanese but whore very very happy with their Japanese Kenshin manga. No translation I know is truly well done and the manga you find outside Japan (France and Germany, as far as I know) have absolutely ugly soundwords that destroy the pictures, the manga itself. If you read the translation scripts you can find online and have the manga, you can become fully happy.
Youre lucky, you!

About Kaoru.
Just last week I started to like her... I mean, like her a lot. I really did not pay much attention to her. I seem to have a slight problem with main characters... :( Anyway, the last volume had a lot of wonderful Kaoru scenes, or so it seemed to me, so I somehow started to like that girl all of a sudden. I am ashamed I never cared about her. Shame! Shame! Shame!

03-18-2002, 10:11 PM
I like the OVAs alot more..more mature and alot better made, the episodes just seem like a slap-stick comedy..

03-19-2002, 10:29 PM
Yea i liked OVA's a lot more as well. The episodes reminded me of Tenchi not bashing muyo but i dont care for slapstick in serious anime.

03-19-2002, 11:16 PM
Doesn't anybody here like the almighty master of Kenshin, Hiko Seijyuro? Or the 3rd squad leader of the shinsengumi, Saito Hajime? Aku-Zoku-Zan still gives me chills when I hear it.

03-20-2002, 04:54 AM
i always liked megumi better than kaoru. she reminds me of shampoo from ranma. it is hilarious when kaoru sees megumi hitting on kenshin. but i dun think that any of the women can compare to misao. misao is just soooooo coolio. i luv it i luv it i luv it

03-20-2002, 09:23 AM
ahhahhah i remember that.Kaoru gets rather peturbed when she sees megumi crawling on always gives me a good chuckle.

03-20-2002, 09:08 PM
Here! Me! I like Hiko because he is fun together with his baka deishi. ^_^ Hehe.
And Saito-san, yes, I like him because he is a very interesting character... you just never know what he is up to. You know, the last time I thought I knew what he wanted... he scared me...
There are a lot of characters I really like... Megumi and Kaoru can have hilarious scenes... typical Megumi-Kaoru-scenes... Splendid.

Personally, I like both the light-hearted parts of rurouni Kenshin and the sad ones. I like that the story keeps its positive attitude even when the events are really awful. I would not endure a completely dark and gloomy atmosphere.

03-23-2002, 08:03 AM
Is it just me, or would Sanosuke and Megumi make a good couple? I've only read up to Kyoto, so don't tell me if they actually do hook up, but it seems to me that Megumi has the ability to tame Sanosuke's free spirit. Also, Yahiko and Tsubame are obviously a pair; Kenshin and Kaoru, so obvious. Hey...they can go on a triple date one night!!!! lol

03-24-2002, 08:04 AM
ENISHI!!! * drool *

03-24-2002, 04:51 PM
Try to get the lyrics and their English translation of the song TZwo of a Kind, Megumi and Sanos duet! :D :D :D
They hate each other so much, it must be love.

Hell yes!!

03-24-2002, 08:27 PM
Is it even still possible to get the OVA's on DVD?? Ive looked from here to hell's kitchen looking for it but all i can find are the episodes.

03-25-2002, 02:59 AM
Has anyone heard about the new OAV for Kenshin that was being made? I got the trailer for it! I need to go to a Japantown and rent it 0_o

03-25-2002, 03:36 PM
From what I have heard about the new OVA and what it is about, I prefer waiting. Ill try to get my hands on it as soon as I have finished the manga ... the real story. So, another year... I could not get it legally anyway.

03-25-2002, 11:56 PM
Hello!!! Does you know the story behind the new OVA? What does it revolve around?

03-26-2002, 02:20 AM
Well its already out in Japan. So maybe some research into it will answer your questions. I myself have absolutely no clue.

03-26-2002, 02:21 AM
uhh... kinda spoilers...

It takes place around the time when Kenshins' son is being trained by Hiko... yes Hiko is still alive :p

I for one love Kenshin, though I haven't progressed far in the series......

03-26-2002, 04:41 AM
Kenshin has a son? Who's the mother? Kaoru? Misao? Megumi?

03-26-2002, 02:09 PM
What kind of question is that? As far as I know Kenshin is not into Megumi so Megumi cant be it. And as far as I remember Misao is not into funny little men but into gloomy tall men... Think carefully, who could it be then?

03-26-2002, 09:23 PM
Id tell the lad but i want him to figure this out on his own. COUGH::KAORU::COUGH:alien:

03-27-2002, 01:11 AM
Well, that's one of the things with anime. It's so unpredictable so I'm always ready for something totally unexpected. I'm glad it's Kaoru. I just thought that there was also something going on between Megumi and Kenshin... and since anime is so unpredictable that maybe she and Kenshin would get together.

Auron of the ushido
03-28-2002, 02:20 AM
That would have sucked, though.

03-28-2002, 01:18 PM
"Anime is so unpredictable"?
You mean, in general? I dont think so. There are some pretty boring shows, and some pretty predictable ones. Of course there are.
As for Kenshin, the author does manage to surprise me often enough, but for some odd reason I never had the slightest doubt about Kenshin and Kaoru falling in love with each other forever. Okay, and judging from the manga I have read so far, it is getting more obvious and more obvious...

03-28-2002, 03:39 PM
yea same here. When i first stated out with RK i thought it was gonna be Megumi for a while. Then Misao. But as time progressed and as i read the mangas It became more and more obvious of Kenshin and Kaoru's feelings for each other.but thats the beauty of it.It keeps ya guessing:)

03-28-2002, 04:03 PM
When I said anime is unpredictable, I meant the ones I watch.:p Yeah, some anime are very predictable, like pokemon, dragonball, sailor moon, etc. You only have to watch the first 5 minutes to figure out what would happen. As for dragon ball, you can just watch 1 in every 20 episodes and still keep up with the story.:eye:

03-29-2002, 01:37 AM

Yea since in DBZ it can take a whole week to get through a 5 to 10 minute fight..:D

Back on topic:

03-29-2002, 11:32 AM
But I like the rurouni way more... ahem. And anyway, he is not Aoshi. Heh.

DBZ is not predictable. Your mistake was to watch the anime. Read the manga, goddammit!

Back to topic: Oniwabanshu kick ass! Ill buy volume 21 tomorrow! Aoshi on page 83! Yeah, yeah, yeah!

03-29-2002, 07:22 PM
Funny you're telling me to read the mangas.:D I own all the dbz mangas, from volume 1 to 42. It's still very predictable, but the art is way cool. Furthermore the fights don't take forever, which is why the manga is better than anime.

I want to buy Kenshin mangas too, but I'm having trouble finding them at a good price. A store that I found was charging $20(canadian dollars, btw) on an Evangelion manga. I would get a friend to buy kenshin mangas for me when he goes to japan, but then he'll have to carry an extra suitcase just for me. I mean, I have no idea how many volumes of Kenshin there are, but I imagine that there's a lot.

03-29-2002, 10:26 PM
Heh, sorry about that. I am just used to nobody having ever had a glimpse on the manga. Still, I think if you compare the first volume of Dragonball with the very last one, you will see that you really had not expected the story to go this way, with people getting married and growing up and so on and so on. I have to confess that in DB, everything is possible. If it had been less long it would have been really excellent... imho.

There are not that much Rurouni Kenshin manga, they are not really enough. sniff sniff
28, in fact.
The last ten might be most interesting because the story that is told in them is not in the TV series... and damn good, really!

I mean, dont think that if you want to know how Enishi plots his revenge, you could simply watch the second OVA.. the second OVA seems to be a slap in the face of every Kenshin fan. I know I feel a bit... mad and want to kill the authors. Oh god, people, if yu want to know how Kenshin really ends, go buy the manga! Go buy them! Dont ever believe this OVA will satisfy you, and I am not only critizising the fact that there is not a single Oniwabanshu in there... Dont, dont watch it, buy the manga, my god, save your poor souls, shield them from evil, buy the mangaaa!!!

*burtsts in tears* (this part was inserted later, you know)

However, I think $20 is a bit too much for a single volume, considering that I dont have to spend more than 6 on a RK volume.

03-30-2002, 01:21 AM
since this is about Rurouni Kenshin ^^ i want to ask something...
who the one that make "x"scar on kenshin face?

03-30-2002, 03:02 AM
Yes Yes Yes! The Manga is way better than the anime. WOO HOO MANGA! Sure, the anime does offer moving characters and voices, but the manga is very beautiful! WOO HOO MANGA!

03-30-2002, 09:25 PM

You know that this IS a spoiler? :o
They are originally two scars. The names: Akira Kyosato and Tomoe Yukishiro. It would take a lot of time to explain the whole story. I advice you to do one of the following:
a) Watch the FIRST OVA.
b) read the manga, volumes 19-21, they cover the same story.

Or should I really tell the whole damn story? ^__^

03-31-2002, 05:58 AM
AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! I AM SO HAPPY! When I woke up today, I saw this giant Kenshin Wall Scroll on the wall of my room! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SOMEBODY DOES UNDERSTAND MY OBSESSION!!!!!!!!!!

03-31-2002, 03:59 PM
wow, great. That reminds me on the RK soundtrack I got for christmas. It is scary how our parents learn what we like and what we dislike.

My grandmother will never learn it. She asked, "Whos that ugly guy?" on my beloved Rurouni Kenshin wallscroll. Pah.

Hm, since youve one, too. Tell me what it looks like? Mine has a jumping Kenshin with drawn sword on it.

Misao loves her wallscroll.

04-01-2002, 02:57 AM
I got the one with Kenshin, Shishio, and that maid of his (I can't remember her name grrrrrrr....) I still jump for joy everytime I enter my room! AHHHHHHHH!!!

BTW, my brother got it for me.

04-01-2002, 03:54 PM
The name is Yumi. Wow, I envy you!

04-01-2002, 07:42 PM
I watched the second OVA and third part of the first OVA. The second OVA is really good, although really sad. I learned a lot more about Kenshin watching the 2nd OVA. Now if only I can get my hands on the first one to learn about his "X" scar.

04-01-2002, 08:36 PM
No, you should have bought the manga instead of the second ova. They are sad, too, but way more optimistic. Way more, know what I mean? They are more Kenshin-ish.
And if you read the manga youd also learn about Kens past and his scar.

Should I explain it, mayhaps?
Kenshin-ish would mean the splendid balance between hilarious slapstick and touching sadness, between bishonen and mutans, between romantic scenes and action.

In fact two of Kenshins enemies in the last part of the manga ressemle Venom from Spiderman and Barret from FFVII.
And Aoshi looks better than ever. A must read.:D

04-03-2002, 02:41 AM
Resembling Barret from FFVII and Venom from Spiderman?? Hmmm...that is really interesting

04-04-2002, 07:29 PM
Erhm, lets see... if I can give you a nice list of doppelgangers (if this is the correct english word, I think it sucks)...

Gambit from X-Men

Aoshis trenchcoat
Gambits trenchcoat... in case you wondered why Jinne was not wearing it... ;)

I might be incorrect, but I think there flows a bit of Wolverine blood in his veins. It was X-Men for sure, however.

Hikos mantle
Taken from Spawn.

Yui Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion...

No kidding: EVA01... and some demon from Nausicaa, I think.

Sailor Saturn from Sailor Moon

Tao Pai Pai from Dragonball

Tomoe Yukishiro
Rei Ayanami... and Ive always known it, the two have so much in common!

I am amost certain, but I have no proof. Anyway, carrying a cannon where your right arm should be... Barret, I tell you.

Mumiyoi (or similar)
Venom. Even I recognized him! Whats he doing in Japan? And where is Spidey??

Most of this is true, confirmed by the author, that is.

04-27-2002, 07:12 PM
They FINALLY got the DVD where Kenshin and the gang get out of Kyoto. GOSH IT TOOK A LONG TIME!!! O.K., gonna watch my rented DVD now...

04-28-2002, 05:03 PM
I have bought Kenshin a while ago and I must say it's the phattest anime I've ever seen(togheter with Akira off course).
It's just so good........-I have no words for it.
Maybe it's time for the OVA...Ehrm..*scratches back of his head* whatahh means that OVA-thingie anyway??

04-28-2002, 08:28 PM
Original Video Animation... means it was prosduced for video or DVD release, not for TV.
Which OVA do you mean? The old one of the new one? Just a tip: Dont get the new one, it is evil and useless and it sucks... but the first OVA is... great .

04-29-2002, 05:23 PM
Oh, yeah, thats the good one. And it is really good. Youre right, the new one is not out yet outside Japan... I hope it never will be.
But thats only my opinion. An opinion Ill stick with forever...
I hope you liked this OVA youve watched... Tsuiku Hen... whatever the title was.

04-29-2002, 10:01 PM

Actually, I might clear that up. I havent seen the last one, but after someone spoilered me, I read a summary, and judging from that they really did a useless thing.

Tsuioku Hen was good because (?) it was a story told in the manga, Kenshins flashback and explanation why a certain psychopath wants to take revenge on him so very much. This part of the manga, also known as the Jinchu Arch, or Enishi Saga... or something like that, had not been in the TV series... so in anime form, Kenshin had been unfinished for some time.
I suppose this was the main reason for doing the OVA. But they completely messed it up, they changed too much... and so not much of the original story was left.
And there was no reason to kill the Jinchu Arch like this. :) It is my favourite part right now. It has so many cool and so many funny scenes... this OVA is useless, nobody needs it!
