I think the part mentioned, in which Tidus finds out summoners are sacrificed on their pilgrimages is sad, but I also think the ending in itself was the overall saddest part of the game. It was extremely emotional and also bitterly ironic that the roles of the main characters were, in a way, switched at the end...

Maybe I can help, at least with part of that, since I didn't really understand how Yu Yevon fit into the picture until recently either. Apparently he was the leader of Zanarkand and Lady Yunalesca's father. He crafted Sin to use as armour out of millions of pyre flies when Zanarkand was at war with Bevelle. Bevelle at the time was using all sorts of machina weapons. So, Sin was programmed to destroy large settlements that possessed machina. Yu Yevon created Sin, but soon lost his soul and his innate control of Sin, and it went on a rampage destroying Zanarkand. However, Lady Yunalesca was given instructions by her father, Yu Yevon, on how to calm and defeat Sin before it was created, and she eventually became the first Summoner to eventually defeat it for a time after it went berserk. This is also when the teachings of Yevon, which involved the shunning of most machina and the summoner pilgrimage, first began.

I absolutely agree. I've always found father-son issues really sad, mostly because of my own situation, and this game didn't go easy on that part. Apart from the scene in the quote above, and the one where Auron says goodbye to everyone (and gives Khimari that little punch on the shoulder, holy smoke that made me cry), it was the short sequence with Tidus and Jecht doing the 'high five' thing that made me cry the most out of the whole game. Also, if you didn't gather, I am very over-emotional -.-

bass_ace31

id say its a tie between these two:

when tidus finds out that his father sacrificed himself for everyone. throughout the game he hated ject for leaving and thought he was this coward who ran, and then he finds out the feelings he had against his father for so long were unjustified.

and yea when we find out that yuna sacrifices herself. tidus was saying everything i was thinking.

''and i would say 'come on yuna, lets go defeat sin' and she would smile with me and laugh."

SammyWammy
08-31-2007, 05:51 AM

His voice was pretty annoying, though, and that scene had little impact on me because of it. It was also a plot twist a little on the predictable side, but one I enjoyed nonetheless.

The saddest part for me was the scene after the Blitzball finals and Tidus is all torn up because his daddy is a gigantic aquatic monstrosity and Yuna forces him to laugh. I swear to God and His seven toes that was the most stupid scene I ever saw in a game. His laughter was like having my nails removed and shoved up my ass, while a tiny little imp poured salt on the wounds.

SammyWammy
09-01-2007, 08:06 AM
hehehe, your right, his voice is pretty annoying.
And i hated the yuna and tidus laughing bit just because of how stupid his laugh sounded. I thought it was sweet how she was trying to make him happy but she could have thought of a better way to do it.

SammyWammy
09-05-2007, 07:54 AM
I forgot about that, it was pretty sad. The ending scene was so sad, it made me cry and even some through the game too. And i don't usually cry that easily.

I found many parts to have an effect on me. Whether its the words they use in the sentence or the music making it seem more sad than it really is.

Espanha
09-05-2007, 01:27 PM
Pshh sad? I suppose it was, if Tidus realized he could have achieved the same results as a massive and life-changing revelation with just a few sessions of therapy. "i hate my dad! a lot! look at how much i hate my dad! no wait, it is the fact my mom doesnt love me when hes around that i hate! dad i love you! a lot! look at how much i love you!"

Any shreds of pity are easily dissipated if you think about how he went to join Jecht, Braska and Auron for eternity. Quite like the family-friendly Disney endings sensitive people hate.

Way to go, Hynad, because knowing one might die 50 years from now is exactly the same as knowing it will happen in a matter of hours, as Tidus did.

There was no surprise to either Tidus' or Auron's death, hence no trauma. It's like you have someone in their deathbed. You know it will happen soon and of course you'll feel sad (if you're fond of the person) but where's the shock? It happened, you knew it would happen soon. What's there to be surprised about?

Honestly, that was an even dumber comment from you, Hynad.

Hynad
09-30-2007, 11:51 PM
Not at all. You assume that he was going to die the whole game. Yet there could have been something that happened during the ending movie that showed the party managing to find a way to let Tidus live somehow. Until the very end of the game, it was still possible that Tidus would live.

Anything could have happened.

Espanha
09-30-2007, 11:54 PM
Of course I assumed he was going to die. The game implies he will have to disappear in the end, so why should I have been surprised? I would've been surprised if he had indeed survived. His survival was the shocker, not his death.

Hynad
