I'm a serious FFX junkie that has recently resorted to acquiring every possible tech for everyone on my team, but now there's a problem.

I'm not interested in suggestions for better players, suffice it to say that two of my eight players, Wakka and Tidus, cannot be laid off in hopes they'll be snapped up by another team, thus enabling them to learn Anti-Drain by some act of god.

Here's the thing: I have a certain Isken currently equipped with Anti-Drain, on the Kilika Beasts team. Naturally, this will be replaced at half time (this is one skill the game refuses to equip in any other situation, ie. it'll only be available to learn when you've equipped Anti-Drain deliberately onto someone whose contract with Besaid is about to expire, and they get picked up by another team. The first half is the only time this is available)

Anyway, Tidus and Wakka have him marked. I go to copy it, after Drain Tackle 3'ing him a billion times, but the "Tech Copy" message only appears for an instant before disappearing. It should be noted that Isken is currently at a much lower level than my Wakka and Tidus, so their level is not at fault. I've tried and I've tried, but I can't seem to find the correct timing for stabbing the X button.

What I'd like to know is: has anyone done this? What is the exact moment the button needs to be pushed? Otherwise my team won't be perfect.

I seem to recall having learnt it myself. If you can't seem to techcopy it, you might want to save next time before a new tournament comes up and repeatedly load/reset until you get Anti-Drain.

I can't actually check this at the moment because I don't have my PS2 in uni, though. It may have been Anti-Drain 2 I learned - regardless, I think you should be able to find Anti-Drain as a prize also.

I find with the more difficult techniques it's often quicker to just win them as prizes rather than trying to techcopy them. Anyway, let me know how you get on with this.

I have saved it, it is still at that point (where I can learn the tech off Isken). I have it on hold, until I learn new information, so as not to waste too much time on hours of retries.

I thought only Anti-Drain 2 was learnable from prizes, I have yet to see Anti #1.

I have the patience, but I doubt anyone can help. It may be a game glitch whereby X must be pushed when "TECHCOPY" isn't even there at all. It may be just completely ridiculous timing. It may be a problem only affecting Pal games. I hope someone can provide a solution. It's damned frustrating.

The exact moment to tech-copy the Drain and Anti-Drain moves is really early. You know how for some techcopies, like Sphere Shot, you have to press [x] right at the tail-end? Well, I believe that the exact moment to tech-copy Anti-Drain is right when your player makes contact with the opponent. When you see your character rushing toward the opponent, get ready, because you have less than a second of time to get it. And right when you hear the sound that Anti-Drain worked against your player, that's when you should press [x].

Thank you Olde, that's just the sort of response I was hoping for.

Will give it a burl this week and get back with the results.

I don't think it's very hard to techcopy. What I have a hard time with is when they need to techcopy Volley Shot. I've only ever even seen that move used twice. It's rare for me that anyone drops the ball, and rarer that someone close by has volley shot. Any help on this, guys..?

The best way to learn Volley Shots that I've found is to pass the ball to one of your forwards and, depending on their pass stat, get some opposition defenders on your tail. The idea is that you should pass back to your furthest defender through the opposition players so that the pass drops to 0 by the time it completes. Your player will fumble the ball, and if the opposition's forward is close enough then there's a chance they will volley shoot. Make sure you're ready for it though, the moment passes quite quick.
