I went to VGChartz.com | (http://www.vgchartz.com) and looked at the Japanese weekly sales charts. I looked at the first weekly sales in Japan for the main entries in the Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Pokemon series. I got the numbers, I'll list them here, although some numbers appear to be erroneous...

It doesn't show any of the games I'm looking for before Dragon Quest IV, that was the earliest one. Sales for Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V, and Pokemon Red/Green appear very low, so I'm not sure if those specific numbers are accurate. I didn't see sales information for Pokemon Blue either.

Also, I have a question about the first week sales information for Pokemon Crystal. I browsed on Vgchartz.com for the date I was looking for...
VGChartz.com | Japanese Weekly Chart (http://www.vgchartz.com/japweekly.php?date=36877&disp=Japanese+Name&boxartz=3)
They don't show Pokemon Crystal but they show a new game called "Pokemon Trading Card GB 2" with sales of 806,798, which is what I'd expect for Pokemon Crystal sales. I looked for information on the game but couldn't find it. I went to the next week's sales though...
VGChartz.com | Japanese Weekly Chart (http://www.vgchartz.com/japweekly.php?date=36884&maker=&console=)
That game was not on the charts but this weeks sales shows a new game "Pocket Monsters Crystal" with sales of 319,667. That's the right name but incorrect date and unexpectedly low sales. I'm thinking that the 806,798 sales from the game a week earlier actually is Pokemon Crystal, not sure though.

Also, the first week Japanese sales for the original PS 2 version of Final Fantasy XI shows up as 70,016, which is definetely an error. I don't know what the true sales are but they would be over a million in the first week definetely.

All the other numbers on the list seem accurate. Now everybody can get a great idea of what the top Japanese rpg sales are. I searched through the Japanese weekly sales information for all 19 years they had available! It took a while, but I was really curious to get this information. Also, no other Japanese rpg's approached the sales figures of the main entries in these three rpg series. Oh, and from the sales figures I've seen throughout those charts, it appears that rpg's sell three times as much in Japan versus the United States!

What do you think of this information? :)

Dragonsoul play Smash Bros!

What do you think of this information? :)

I think it's all pretty bland.
I mean, it's just a box with figures in it to me.

I guess I'm just one of those old fashioned type people who doesn't really take an interest into how well games sell within the first week of production.

If you like it though, that's greatt!
I'm sure someone will find that info. useful.

Dragonsoul, although full of positiveness & non-harmful threads, his info is always useless, and his life stories about Alundra 1 and what not are pretty boring. Lets aplaud for his trying though.

I posted this on Eyesonff.com and it got a lot of replies. It appears that the two different forums have two different interests. :)

Most of those replies were pretty pointless, too. From what I hear, your thread's pretty much a microcosm of the entire community over there.

Honestly, besides Dragonsoul, who gives two shits about the sales?

DragonQuest VIII was boring...I could not stay awake. Maybe the Japanese used it for their insomnia...y'know all that stress of losing your job and getting humiliated by your boss. They probably couldn't wait to to go home and play DQVIII and fall asleep.

Actually...I kinda liked it...just the music made me fall asleep.

Also I doubt that FFXI number is an error. MMOs aren't near as popular in Japan as they are in America.

At least not back then, not sure about now.

Well it does say PS2 sales for FFXI. Whoever did get it probably got it for PC first. But I think you're probably right...don't think MMOs are as popular over in Japan as they are in America.

Oh okay, I didn't know how popular they were. I wonder how popular World of Warcraft is in Japan? I think the PS 2 version of FF XI in Japan came out before the PC version, not sure though. :)

WoW is like crack cocaine so if you start playing it you will die.

I'll have to watch out for that, I heard the same thing before also. It's addictive!

The only MMO related deaths I've heard about were related to Everquest.

People suiciding mainly due to losing everything. Losers in more ways than one.

As for WoW in Japan, as far as I know the only Asian countries it's "popular" in is China. But, goldfarmers so it doesn't really count. Most of the subscribers are in NA, UK, and AUS.

I dunno what I'm supposed to think here. I'll just nod and say "good job".

As for MMOs, it irks me when players starve or off themselves over games. Then watchdog groups blame the games instead of the victims. Now maybe they're running away from real life or whatever, but (and I say this with concern) if you're too busy with a game to eat a goddamned sandwich your brain is a pee stain.
