Why does everyone hate FFX so much? Sure, the sphere grid can be unbearable and the voices (especially Tidus' voice) can be annoying and Blitzball is alright but other than that, the game is fine I just don't see why this game is hated.

i cant say i was a fan of X. if i didnt like the battles so much and the new sphere grid system of leveling and blitzball then id say i did hate it.
The storyline was linear, no room for flexibility or straying from ur path.
Also Religion betrays you..ugh please give me a break, like that wasn't obvious.
When you got an airship it wasnt like ANY of the previous ones, you were a navigator picking coordinates.
Kimarhi, lulu and wakka were useless characters once u got your accuracy higher or made rikku or yuna learn black magic.
Aurons final overdrive sucked, i prefered shooting star most of the time. Kimarhis overdrives sucked. Wakkas sucked coz you had to win blitzball to do it, and by time you really wanted to play blitzball you were in zanarkand.
Dark Aeons were overpowered, same with the created monsters which were easy till u got them to no health and they unleash their ultimate 99,999 attacks.
it led to FFX-2 (enough said)
avoiding 200 lightning bolts was annoying as hell, *X, jump back, battle,* or better *flash of light, battle - win, X X X X X X X, no lightning* -_-'

Highroad, took damn ages and it was the same thing over and over, it was dull road.
Seymours gay laugh was worse than king cold in a gay bar.
Seymour just keeps coming back, he revives more than sephiroth!
You cant get back inside macalania temple even if you kill dozens of the gaudo they just keep coming.
There are 2 versions of suteki da ne, with two different violin parts and noone seems to know the damn difference within the game and the other version (that might possibly be the japanese or american version im not sure)
Does anyone know why sin flies, but its only after he loses his big ass arms that he lets his wings out and flies up?
Even worse than ff9s last boss you get yu yevon, which honestly, jecht was harder than he was, and jecht wasnt hard.
The damn cactuars! that side quest had u runnin around like an idiot and it just was easy but tedious -_-'
seriously, if i threw a ball at sin and kept throwing it, would it take off his arms, why did anyone think a ball would kill anything? i mean ud have to throw it pretty damn hard to one hit wonder someone :S

Also the inability to actually steer your airship was sorta lame...but meh. They coulda added more side games that aren't aggravating. And NO, lightning dodging or (omg kihmari's weapon) ********* catching weren't good ones.

FFX-2 had a better OST, less TEE-DUS, and a far superior battle system.

I do agree that it killed the story of FF10, same goes for the final scenes of FF9; could have been a better of ending if the whole play scene didn't happen.

And, it's pretty predictable when you have an FF fan that has FF7 & FF10 in their top 2/3/5.

1) The game knew itself, it wasn't suppose to be serious and everything from the characters to the music to the story was that way.
Unlike FF10 which tried to inject stupid humor with some poorly done melodrama & one of the worst voice acting jobs in any J-RPG (SEE: TEE-DUS; seriously, screw SE...it's TIE-DUS)

2) The battle system was better, unlike the 'hey, lets make everyone the same expect for the limit breaks'...you know, like the FF7 crap.

3) Stop using 'gay' as a way to describe some that's bad. It's stupid and makes you look like a sister-loving inbreed.

Well, Kingdom Hearts came out well before Final Fantasy XII, so the Tee-dus pronunciation originates from there. Kingdom Hearts II is 2005, but maybe there was still disagreement.

For what it's worth, my understanding is that "Tee-dus" is the expected Japanese pronunciation and therefore there is a basis for it. Also, I just read that "Tee-dus" is used in Dissidia.

Honestly, hearing some of the pronunciations in XII, I never would have expected certain ones. Particularly they say Ifrit - "Ih-freet." Same for Bahamut-- I always placed the stress differently than they do.

Japanese tend to get it right, i far prefer saying Aerith, Kuraudo and Angearu. It just sounds better in some places, like when Sephiroth says it when he breaks up him and genesis.

I've seen loads of people bashing FFX. I personally think it was the best FF (After VII of course), and even though tons of people bashed Tidus for being a whiny little kid, I've always thought he was the most relatable main character in a FF game and definitely more realistic than say, Cloud. Yes, Blitzball sucked, but you were only forced to do it once and the story progressed whether you won or lost. Besides, every FF has some mini-game that everybody absolutely hates. Tetra Master anybody?
One of my favorite things about FFX was that the combat was turn-based, which allowed for more thought and strategy instead of waiting for your gauge to fill and just hit "Attack" every time. That and most of the bosses were challenging and would proceed to destroy you if you didn't know what you were doing (Why hello there Seymour Flux / Yunalesca). Now FFXII, THERE was a crap game. Ugh. -_-

Final Fantasy X...

I hate to say this to anyone who is a fan of this game, but personally, I hated this game. Story was old, characters were mediocre (Only Auron, Lulu and Kimahri made it playable for me and yes, i have finished it), music was so so and the less said of blitzball the better imo.

I tried to like this game... but going to the dentist to have my wisdom tooth pulled hurt far less. To those of you who do like this game, good for you. Just remember, that because you liked the game, doesn't mean everyone else has to do.

Oh, and Final Fantasy X-2... hated that one as well.

Nah, she just realized wearing a dress and smacking monsters with a stick wasn't doing much. That, and the entire game she's trying to compensate for losing Tidus by distracting herself with excitement..or something like that? I dunno that much, I played the game to see the "good" ending. 77%, I was done.

Not that there's anything wrong with them, just that I never liked VII mostly because it was so overhyped beyond overhyped.

The only people I can think of who could possibly dislike X are raging FFVII fanboys and fangirls who don't know good story/gameplay/graphics when they see it ;)
And the sphere grid has got to be the coolest innovation in the series since the ATB!

But... I don't like FFX. And I'd consider myself more of a FFXII fangirl than a FFVII fangirl.

To each their own, I guess, but I hate it when people generalise those who disagree with them.

You're right Slavka; I guess my "beef" with VII is just the fact that so many people worship it and bash other FF games for no apparent reason. I know I shouldn't put them into a category like that, but it seems like VII fans and fans of other FF games are like on two sides of a playing field :S I guess I'm just completely nonbiased because I love every FF game equally :D For different reasons, of course. I mean, X isn't great for all the same reasons II is. II is lighter on story, but heavy on just good old fashioned gameplay. VIII may have a slightly confusing battle system, but IX after it makes right up for that :D I don't know, I guess I'm just afraid fans of VII have begun to sway my liking for that game alltogether :( Darn them!
And btw, XII is also amazing :D So different, but at the same time so familiar in so many ways, it's hard to put my finger on it. I haven't played it in over two years because someone else has had my copy, but once I beat X it's on to XII again to relive that awesome game!

But, getting back to the topic, the only thing I personally don't like about X, and many people agree, is how the voice acting is kind of off in some areas :S It's great for the most part, but you've got these awkward pauses between sentences, mainly when Yuna is speaking, and it just sort of chops up what they're saying sometimes. I guess it's not a big gripe though, but one that is notable. At least for me, that's the only dislikable thing about the game I could find. But as Slavka said, to each their own ;)

I seem to recall reading somewhere (I wish I could remember where) that in the Final Fantasy X English version, Hedy Burress tried harder than the other voice actors to try to match the patterns of her speech with the way that the characters were shown speaking on-screen and it just ended up being awkward. She dropped it for FFX-2.

Also, this was the first voice acting FF game. It was bound for failure. Although I do think Auron, Lulu (for the most part) Kimahri, and Wakka (with that Jamaican) did pretty well.

Tidus, Rikku, and especially Yuna were just off key to me.

I'm a FFVII fan and yet don't bash any game (other then FFX-2 on the rare occasion)

Anyway the only thing wrong with FFX that anybody should hate is Tidus's laugh. ITS SO FREAKIN ANNOYING

Auron was my favorite character all around ;) Lulu was awesome too, so was Kimahri, but Wakka.. I dunno. He just seemed to kind of strike a negative chord with me around the middle of the game for some reason I can't define. But still, I agree with Seru_Kai on the voices, but I did like Rikku's voice too. And I agree; Tidus' laugh is NOT something I like to hear before I go to sleep.

Seru_Kai
12-10-2009, 01:23 AM
^^ Rikkus voice just sounds too rushed to me. And you prolly dislike Wakka during the middle of the game because of his blind hatred for the Al Bhed, even when Yevon attacks Home he keeps insisting that that Al Bhed had it coming. Kind didn't like that about him either, but I've grinded enough with him and he's a freaking powerhouse for some reason.....I KNOW! Wakka a freaking powerhouse....ugh.

... This is one of the reasons I hate FFX.

The other... I've already raised in this thread here:

X is my favorite out of the series. There are some flaws though. Would have liked a world map to keep the game more non-linear. Yeah Tidus' voice is bad but I can't really think of another voice that would fit a clueless naive boy. Besides, it certainly fresh to have a main character that isn't a quiet cool guy like Squall and Cloud came out to be. Yeah the story is somewhat cliche but I can't remember the last time any game or movie for that matter had a really fresh new storyline that's never been done before.

FF X is hated on the sole basis that Tidus has terrible voice acting. Other than that (and perhaps the depressing ending), the game is pretty good. I liked the battle system (even if it couldn't compete with ATB).

FFX was my first Final Fantasy, so I'm rather partial to it. I didn't mind Tidus at first but the second time I played he got on my nerves... a lot.

As for X-2, I think the Bevelle Cloisters made that game worth it. I love that part :D

A lot of the newer 'fans' of Final Fantasy have been introduced to the series via the dog crap that is Final Fantasy X, and go back and play the earlier ones and then say how crap they are graphic/storywise are being judgemental @$$holes who think that they know what the FF series is about, just by playing the worst in the series (IMO that is).

The fact SE made Final Fantasy X-2 considering how FFX was received (I knew a lot of people who worked at numerous game stores, who told me how many people returned FFX not long after buying it) makes me wonder why SE did.

But considering how two recent titles released by SE (The Last Remnant and Star Ocean The Last Hope) are lacklustre and mediocre, (and as I said in another thread), SE is loosing touch with RPG's now imo. In short, and this is just my opinion, there are other companies making better RPG's than what SE has offered in the last 10 years, and if they don't sort something out soon, then their 'reign' as RPG King is over.

(Sorry for going off topic with the last paragraph, however I felt it was pertinent.)

I played FFXII first. Then FFI and II. Then FFX. And then the others on SNES and PSX. And the only one I hated(not disliked, hated) is IX. Graphics never matter, and the it's not like games didn't have good stories before the PS2.

The way I see it, people who play FFX first probably won't play the rest on PSX. They might play the ones on the SNES because they were ported to the GBA and III and IV were remade on DS. Other than that...

When I first played FFX I actually hated the game. I thought the voice acting was horrendous, the progression was ridiculous and the game made no sense to me and I also seemed to dislike the battle system. But after 2 years of putting the game down I decided to give it another go and I loved it. I literally couldn't put the game down and I poured 50 hours into it to complete it.

I really have no reason as to why I initially hated the game but later down the road I re-discovered it so to speak. I'm glad I did though because it remains to this day one of my favorite games of all time. Also, I do like the voice actors even though they could somewhat be annoying at times. But overall I wanted to keep playing so I could see what happened next to Yuna, what happned to Tidus, etc. The characters really grew on me over time.

I've come across quite a bit of hatred for it, as well.
Anytime it's mentioned in discussion amongst my friends and I, they always laugh at me for saying I love it. Although it's more of a personal thing for me, since it helped me through a difficult time. Just kinda pisses me off when people who haven't even played it knock it.

"man dat game sucks bawlz"
"When did you play it?"
"i havent"

Ooh.... a sensitive topic for some of you =S .

X was my first as well. I loved it.

About Tidus' and Yuna's voice acting; I found it acceptable because it really seemed like they could get away with it for their characters.

And Yuna's evolution in X-2 made her more tolerable.

I honestly don't think that Tidus is written out to be liked until the end.

X-2 was a horror. If I could place that game under a genre, it would be a horror video game. The only thing that I like about it was the changes that X's events caused to Spira.

Since reading back a little, I've come to terms with the fact that not every aspect is wonderful, so I'll name some things I had problems with.

Tidus. The ever-present annoyance of his voice. In the Luca scene, I always mute the TV, because I can't stand the sound of his yelling. I disliked the way Lulu was dressed, but what can you expect? The game came from Japan. xD
I disliked the layout of Mount Gagazet, because numerous times I'd end up right back at the front because of the constant battles, which would mindfuck me into thinking I was walking left, not right. That's the area I hated most of all as well because of the oncoming boss fight with Mr. Seymour. Haha.
I hated him so bad.

Then I really disliked Luca. That's the part I always try to hurry through. BLEGH.

And that's about it. (:

I actually, enjoy the plots of the games but I wont lie to you, I never EVER understood what the hell was going on in FFX.

Any of you gurus able to summarise it?

It's like:

- People use machina...
- Sin is born because Machina is... wrong or something...
- Summoners perform some ritual to kill the current Sin, get ten years of peace and then boom, Sin returns.
- The thing seemingly controlling it... is Yu Yevon... which... is their god isn't it?
- For some reason... Tidus is asleep... somewhere... or not. And in FFX he is a dream... awoken... to... aid Yuna or something.

You see? I fear had it not been so linear I'd have not had a clue where to go :D.

As a game, FFX provided some really nice challenges. Seymour was probably the most dissapointing antagonist to date, as picky as it is, his voice actor really did nothing for the character.

The only reason I'd tip my hat to Seymour was he's the reason there's an awesome boss battle theme towards the game's end ;D.
