I'm not sure this post has been made but I wanted to ask what you called your aeons or even Tidus, but I doubt any of us changed his name:

Valefor - Going to change the name to Celeste
Ifrit - Nasher
Ixion - Arceus
Shiva - Suciune
Bahamut - Going to change the name
Yojimno - Joker

What did you call yours? Many people may have not changed the names because you liked before but I'm playing this the last time and I plan to complete this with different names.

08-26-2009, 11:16 PM
I'm one of those ones who keeps the canon names, mainly because I can't think up decent 'Final fantasy-esque' ones. XD

08-26-2009, 11:57 PM
I always stick to the original names, too.

08-27-2009, 08:23 AM
How do you re-name? This game doesn't have rename cards does it?

Uh? You can rename them when you get the aeons. Or are you just being sarcastic?

08-27-2009, 09:26 PM
If i ever change, i usually name the main male character Akira and the main Female Angel....

This is going back to Secret of Mana and FFV methinks...

08-31-2009, 06:15 AM
Zak, Tidus is nameable at the start-- that's why nobody in the game ever speaks his name out loud and the reason why all the "It's you!" and "It does look like him." in FFX-2.

I always keep the default names...

09-03-2009, 10:45 AM
Voice - Why hello there "fzzzRoggeerrrffzzzz*staticsound*" how are you?
Roger - Yes my name is "ggfzzzzzttRrrrogeerrrffzzzgg*staticsound*" and im fine!

that would e horrible if games could actually speak your name you typed in, it will be all weird.

I always just stick to default names, just feels right. To this day, I'm still in awe at the fact that they made a game that's 40+ hours and never once does anybody say the name of the main character. Blows. My. Mind.

10-04-2009, 10:34 PM
I don't think I ever touched the Aeon's names, but I did change Tidus' name to "Chappu."

10-05-2009, 11:28 PM
I stick with the original names, always. But this makes me think of something hilarious--I bought a used copy of Chrono Trigger for SNES and somebody had named all the characters something inappropriate. Crono's name was F*cko. LOL

Due to my hatred of this game, I've permanently erased the names of the Aeons I used from my memory, though I do 'think' I just left them as is. For 'Tidus' though... the name 'Numbnut' seemed appropriate.

Appropriate, yes, yet I find it doesn't quite describe how much of a Numbnut he really is..

10-22-2009, 10:55 PM
Yeah, I kept all the default names. Though it did get a bit annoying that Tidus was never mentioned by name lol.

10-24-2009, 09:53 AM
Valefor: Spiney
Ifrit: Devil
Ixion: Unicorn
Shiva: Godess
Bahamut: Destroyer
Yojimbo: Swordman
Anima: Pain
Cindy: Mindy
Sandy: Cindy
Mindy: Sandy :)

10-24-2009, 07:18 PM
Yeah, I noticed they never say the names. In fact, they never say the Aeon names either. It's creepy.
That's funny about the Chronos Cross thing. Heh heh... I did that once to my FF1 characters when I was 12. Then my mom saw it and I had to delete my save. :(
I never rename anyone. It doesn't seem right, and then you have to take into consideration all the time the Square people spent thinking up names for some of these guys.

11-28-2009, 08:50 PM
I prefer to stick with the default names. Other names just seem weird for these characters. I was actually happy when the names stayed normal when FFXII came out, because the story seemed to be more complete. Instead of referring to Vaan as "him" they called him by name. I wish FFX was like that. It would have been better if Tidus' friends actually called him "Tidus."

I never rename my characters because I want to know who people are talking about when they mention the characters by their real names.

If I rename them, I'm libel to forget what they're actual names are and then I'd be lost in conversation.

11-29-2009, 12:58 PM
Normally I don't rename them, I like to play with the original ones...

When I played for the 2nd time the all game changed some names just for fun:

Shiva: Blyzumi
Bahamut: Pwnzor!
Anima: Sephy

11-29-2009, 02:49 PM
i would pronouce the name how it is spoken in the game usually.

12-09-2009, 12:57 AM
I think all FF games need a "Namingway" like FFIV has. Otherwise, I think the option to rename your characters just sort of . . . ruins it :S I mean that's just me, but I'd rather use the names they were given :D
I personally don't understand why they bothered to give you the option to change their names in X, because well, it's voice-acted... And I think them never once saying Tidus' name is kinda silly :S

01-22-2011, 06:46 AM
Valefor: Vali
Ifrit: Irena
Ixion: Icarus
Shiva: Sinea
Bahamut: Bihima
Yojimbo: Yekina
Anima: Anelia
Cindy: Cindy
Sandy: Sandy
Mindy: Mindy
Yeah i just thought up names that start with the same letter that the aeons name is. I want to change Shiva's name to Siena but i cant so that stupid. And one person does say Tidus's name. In kilika when you first arrive there on the boat (after sin's attack), and the aurochs are doing repairs there's one of them outside a hut who says somthing like "you should help out too Tidus". Not a lie not a joke, its real

01-22-2011, 09:34 PM
If it's said in text, then it doesn't count. We're talking about ones that are said out loud.

New Dragon
01-22-2011, 11:43 PM
There's actually a person in the Moonflow who mentions your name. I think there would be a couple more, but I haven't noticed.

Back on topic...I remember learning about Ancient Egypt at the time that I replayed my final save, so I renamed my aeons to the Ancient Egypt gods. What a waste.

The Gods of Ancient Egypt are insulted to be referred to the Aeons in FFX.

01-23-2011, 05:09 AM
I called "Ifrit", "Efreet". I'm a creative guy

01-27-2011, 12:46 AM
Well, that is how you pronounce it according to Final Fantasy XII, though I always pronounced it "Ih-frit" in my head until that game came along.

01-27-2011, 08:59 PM
I stayed in keeping with the authenticity of these wonderous fake creatures called Aeons and kept the names of the usual culprits the same.

I only renamed Valefor to Ayda as I was having a conversation about a character named Ayda from something else at the time and I was stuck for a name.

02-02-2011, 04:53 AM
It's a been a while since I played FFX, but I can't remember any character speaking Tidus' name out loud. I think that's why a lot of people get stuck between calling him "Tide-us" and "Tee-dus" in the English-dub. Wakka says Tidus' name out loud in Kingdom Hearts though, but that could be considered irrelevant to FFX.

Anyhow, I also stick with traditional names. It's hard for me to see them as anything else.

02-02-2011, 05:25 AM
In the original Kingdom Hearts, it was said as "Tee-dus," but then in Kingdom Hearts II they switched to "Tide-us," only adding to the confusion.

02-02-2011, 08:10 PM
I didn see the other part to the thread. Tidus I ended up calling Neild, I wish I would have called him, Twit, Twat, Prat or useless.

All of the above would have been more appropriate.

02-05-2011, 08:56 PM
If I ever play this game again, I'm going to name Tidus Clownbaby.

02-07-2011, 11:33 AM
Well, that is how you pronounce it according to Final Fantasy XII, though I always pronounced it "Ih-frit" in my head until that game came along.

I was referring to how "Efreet" is an alternate romanization of the djinn's name in Arabic.

That's one thing I didn't really like about the Aeons in FFX... sure they looked good, but A: felt more like playing Pokemon when you call them and B: Were kind of uninspired tbh. Sure, we know what they are (fayth etc w/e)... but apart from that, so what?

Razzle Dazzle
02-09-2011, 10:43 PM
Well, I've started to play FFX all over again (6th or 7th time, already); And this time I named the beasts:

Tidus - Shuyin

Valefor - Pterya
Ifrit - Maghmar
Ixion - Raiju

...And that's all for now.
P.S.: I really doubt they had any brainstorm to come up with the names and the aeons. Most of them are divinities and demons. Valefor (Valefar), for example, is known as a prince of the occult. He is represented by an eagle with a lion head.

02-10-2011, 12:40 AM
Oh, the summon names are usually drawn from mythology. Odin is a common summon from the Final Fantasy titles and that's from Norse mythology. Gilgamesh, named after the character from The Epic of Gilgamesh also frequently crops up as a recurring character. Bahamut, on the other hand, is original and stems back to the king of dragons from the very first Final Fantasy title.

Edit, never mind. Apparently Bahamut has his origins in mythos as well.

Razzle Dazzle
02-10-2011, 12:45 AM
Well, I doubt that Bahamut is a "Final Fantasy-original", as there was a dragon in the Arabic Mythology named Bahamut, aswell. However, it just proves my point, RPG's aren't THAT creative - they just go to wikipedia. q:

What I meant... the history of the Aeons in the world of FFX, while seemingly to be important to Spira and it's inhabitants, is lacking. The summons as a whole, are based off the myths and legends from different cultures around the world.

02-12-2011, 07:17 AM
I kept all the default names, because I'm boring.

07-15-2011, 03:22 AM
lol i was wondering why NOT ONE PERSON mentioned his name throughout this whole game! lol i mean jeez its only one of the FIRST QUESTIONS YOU ASK WHEN YOU MEET SOMEONE!!! anywho aside from da awkwardness of not askin this poor guy's name and forever being known as "THAT GUY", I loved this game! played it about 6 times over already. as for the names, I never really changed them (i was like 10 when i played this game)

Magus Sisters-Same

Tidus- due to my wanting sense of adventure :D I named him after ME! BOOYAH! (^.^)-b

all in all tho this was an awesome game, in my opinion. I liked it a whole lot more than most other final fantasy games. my favorite character still has to be between Jecht and Auron tho...stiiiilll deciding..yeppp...SCREW THE ANGRY FURRY SMURF!!! anywho i'm playing it again now so I'll just stick with tidus's name and rename EVERYONE ELSE!

11-18-2011, 01:40 PM
Valefor: Sariah (she's a dragon in a story)
Ifrit: Socks
Ixion: Zexion (cuz his name reminded me of him!)
Shiva: Toast
Bahamut: Yasmin (my name... even though Bahamut's a guy)
Yojombo: Joel (my brother's name... cuz Yobimbo reminds me of himXD)
Anima: Blacky
Cindy: Beer
Sandy: Patches
Mindy: Lemonade

Tidus: Tidus

I just had fun with the aeons' names. And I left Tidus as Tidus because it's his name... you know... I just thought it would be appropriate.

I rename Tidus with my name and the Aeons like the ancient greek gods:

Ifrit: Mars
Valefor: Mercury
Shiva: Venus
Bahamut: Neptune
Yojimno: Zeus
Ixion: Pluto

10-06-2019, 03:12 PM
I never gave the Aeons different names.
