PS3 has lost its exclusiveness for FF. Maybe micro$oft paid a lot of money to square enix to make it same for all plaforms, so that 360 can compete in the market :D.

Could really give a crap.

This just seems like a licence for all those guys complaining about FFXIII going multi last year to justify their bitching. It still doesn't matter as long as the game is good.

Yeah it sucks to lose the audio, but at the same time I think the article is a bit lame to proclaim that the sky is falling. "pacing" etc.

ThroneofOminous
09-05-2009, 09:52 AM
What I especially like about the "pacing" bit is that it's not actually based on anything Square Enix has said about the game, but rather a "guestimation" by PS3 Center that they've tacked onto the end to make this "reveal" seem more significant than it actually is.

Those are all baseless assumptions.

Just because some games were made some ways doesn't mean at all that Final Fantasy will follow the same route.

And we certainly didn't lose the audio. It wasn't planned to be included in the first place.

FF XII's dub was very good, and Alexander O. Smith is the one in charge of the localization again so I'm pretty sure it will be as good as XII if not better.

And there's nothing confirmed about this "paying for this potential japanese voice over track" thing.

Personally, I thought the PS3 was a shitfest from the start on game selection, so I decided to buy a Xbox 360(which, all in all, is a compromise for more/better games for crap hardware...RED RINGS! AAAHHH) I've played some of the FF's with Japanese Audio/English sub but honestly, I prefer English to Japanese ANYDAY.

So what if you can't access the beginning parts of the game? Why would you need to? Sounds like a few excuses for Sony fans(which is ironic, because my phone is a Sony) to be angered by the whole multi-platform thing, it's about damn time, I say.

Areas were cut off in 7, 8 & 9? I don't remember not being able to go anywhere unless there was a justifiable readon, suck as a mountain in my way. Which makes sense.
It's a shame they're cutting it back, but I doubt it'll be a big issue. I also don't get why they needed to though. I mean, I chose a 360, and was willing to watch PS3ers have better graphics. Even if I wasn't, tough titties to me.
I'm looking forward to Versus XIII more because it looks cooler anyway.

I wonder though... 360 has the obvious space disadvantages when matching up against the blu-ray format... Couldn't they benefit from PC-inspired game installs? Multiple discs for RPGs are fine, but id's shooter Rage will have multiple discs on 360. That doesn't sound very grand.

ThroneofOminous
09-30-2009, 01:47 PM
I think Microsoft has some sort of rule against mandatory installs for 360 games due to the arcade being without a hard drive. Presuming multiple disks did cause issues in terms of how much of the gameworld they could fit on each, there wouldn't be much they could do about it.

doomjockey

You should read how they're handling Forza 3 (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/103/1031109p1.html).

Short version: You have access to the game from disc one, but to play with all the cars and tracks you have to install what they're dubbing "extra content" from the second disc. About 2GB worth of content total.

Sounds more like the other half of your game than "extras". Wonder if other games will be allowed to submit "extra content" discs now. Dancing around the space issue is silly.

i only really play the ps1 final fantasy's (6 - 9) so i'm used to changing disks... doesn't bother me at all really.

The Xbox Arcade package has been discontinued, so only the normal and elite versions are available. Being able to download the game onto the Xbox 360's HDD would help with the loading times, but I suspect it'd be in your best interest to have the 120GB HDD in that case.

Personally, who cares about the graphic limitation/downgrades? imo, Graphics are just the 'icing' on the cake. Sure they make it look pretty, but saying that a game sucks due to bad graphics is rather petty.

On a sidenote, I've read a lot of threads bashing the Xbox 360... If you don't like the console, that's fine. Don't have to bring it up in almost every thread (Yes 7alentine, I'm talking to you here.). If you want to 'discuss' the pro's and con's of PlayStation 3 vs Xbox 360, do so in the General Gaming section if you 'have to'.

WOA :O Well, it doesn't really bother me; personally, I didn't even notice that fact in games like VII, VIII, and IX, because I was so engrossed in the game. But, come to think of it, LOTS of places are not visitable later on in the game. I think we're looking at a game SO HUGE, it may even equal the epic proportions of the three PS1 installments :D And that's great news! Right now I'm working on XII, and that game already is one of the best looking titles I've ever seen for PS2, so if XIII is taking that to the extreme, that even the PS3's hardware would require multiple discs (I assume that's what I'm being led to believe), then we're in for something major.

Anyway personally I don't care if I have to use multiple discs for my Ps3. It didn't bother me with VII so it shouldn't bother me now. Less areas to go back to is a bummer and although its not a "OMG THE GAME SUCKS NOW" thing it is disappointing. The voice thing doesn't bother me at all because in the demo's I downloaded off PS store I thought the English Dub suited better (I know weird right?). I will also be disappointed if the graphics are subtracted. I don't get why they're making the Xbox 360 equal to the PS3 because the PS3 game will probably cost more anyway! Those are my 2 cents

Being able to download the game onto the HDD of Xbox 360 and PS3 would speed up the loading times, but depending on how big the files are (and what size HDD's you have on your relevant consoles) you may have to look at getting a HDD specifically for one game (granted that's worse case scenario, however, considering how much space on the 20gb HDD which came standard with the Xbox 360 consoles, that took up over 12-13gb of space).

Voice acting, as I stated in another thread, is kind of a hit and miss affair imo. While one voice may be perfect for one character, another voice for another character could be worse. Still, that doesn't phase me, as long as there is a subtitle option.

Graphic wise, true graphics are important, but they don't always make or break the game. From my perspective graphics are just the icing on the cake, to give you something pretty to look at. Nothing wrong with that, but not something which is a MUST HAVE kinda thing.

To contribute to the discussion, Like many have already said, the differences probably won't be terribly evident to most people. The graphics look really good(better than any other JRPG on either console, right now)on BOTH systems. I'd like to see more 360 stuff, though, to see what the load times are like. With installs, though, I'd imagine they'd be reduced, anyway.

I'm more concerned about the actual game, to be honest...I've been reading/watching/hearing some...bad things about it. I mean, people hated XII, too, and I loved that, so...I'm hoping that this is just another one of those "let's hate the latest thing" situations...

I'm unsure if you can install games on the PS3, but I know you can on the Xbox 360 as I have done so for a few of my games. The loading times vary from game to game, but are faster than running from the disc, so that's a bonus. Downside, still have to have the disc in the console to start it up.

I admit, what I've heard of FFXIII doesn't make me feel confident in it. However, I will still give it a try when it's released here in Australia. Though tbh, I don't think it's going to be one of those FF's I'm going to 'be all over' though.

I'm all for the 360 version, since I don't own a PS3, and don't have any immediate plans to.

Since I have an Arcade version of the 360 (I was cheap at the time, and didn't want to wait another month to have the money for a better version), installation is not the way to go (though sooner or later, I'm going to have to get a better Xbox).

Whats the fuss over getting the japanese audio though?

Same here, I too have the arcade version but I have 3 80gb external hard drives lying around with no use, so I use them with my 360. However it still doesn't affect my decision whether or not I would consider buying FFXIII.

360 isn't too bad... so far. I got it as a gift recently and I've enjoyed it a lot... ironic since I was one who hated the idea of getting one. I'm gambling that since my 360 was manufactured this year that microsoft had enough time to work out more of the "red ring of death" issues.

Only time will tell....

Whats the fuss over getting the japanese audio though?

Sometimes, the Japanese script gets translated poorly, or differently, so with JP voices, assuming it's understandable by people who want it, it's more or less uncut. Also good for learning Japanese.

As for the town cutoff thing, installing part of that town's data on the hard drive to revisit it in the future would work, though it's a little pointless to revisit places that have almost nothing to offer except noob equipment (for those random urges and challenges) or even to stock up on 99 daggers. I mean, The Legend of Dragoon pulled off multidisking nicely. Want to go back to disc 1's town to get the stone for the Giganto? Insert disc 1 to go back to disc 1~ It wasn't that much of a hassle, either. At least it's not like FFV where once ExDeath starts voiding towns, you can never revisit them again.

I'm only just now seeing this :O

I have to concur; it seems that a lot of times, people rant and rave about something only after it's got some age to it. When it first comes out, it's shit, but after it's, say, ten years old or so, all of a sudden everything currently on the market sucks because it's not as good as that game that nobody liked back when it first hit shelves. I can think of a few games I have that were like that, at least with my circle of friends; the original RE, RE2, FFIV, Turoks 1-3 (also favorites of mine), there's more but I can't think of them right now. At any rate, you're absolutely right, and I truly hope this does turn out to be another case like that. Even if the game doesn't get its slice of the cake until years from now, it'll still get a bit of the frosting from me right off the bat.

At least it's not like FFV where once ExDeath starts voiding towns, you can never revisit them again.

In case you haven't found out yet, expect this. Once you're in Gran Pulse, thats all you can visit next to Eden and the Final Dungeon. And the last 2 locations have relatively nothing to do in comparison.

Actually whenever you're in a new area or a cutscene sends you to a wholly different location in that area, that's it. This game will never give you the option to backtrack past Gran Pulse.

So if you love the vistas each chapter has to offer, I recommend making multiple saves. Otherwise you're gonna need to run through a bunch of new game files to revisit locations.

It's easier to port over the game from PS3 to 360, the 360 version wasn't conceived until after the PS3 version hit the shelves in Japan.

I think we should blame S.E. on this one, why work on a game for the PS2 when the PS3 was announced earlier that year? :|

That's just my two cents, square's got to make better decisions.
